총 732점의 회화 시리즈 <SEL2020HEL>은 2020년 매일매일(366일)의 한국과 핀란드의 공기오염도를 데

이타에 근거한 300가지의 색을 통하여 한 번에 펼쳐보이는 파노라마 형식의 풍경 작품이다. 각각의 색은 대

기질의 미묘한 변화를 섬세히 나타낸다. 개념 화가인 온 카와라의 <오늘 회화> 연작에서 형식적으로 영감을

받아 날짜 외의 대기질에 대한 추상적인 정보가 페인트와 캔버스의 물질성으로 해석된다. 1년 동안 쉬지 않

고 그림을 만드는 과정에서 SEL2020HEL은 반복적인 일상 노동을 통해 만들어졌는데, 다국적 기업의 시장

경제에 의해 지배된 세계화의 굴레 안에서 우리의 삶과 일, 시간의 본질과 지리적 거리에 대한 다양한 질문

을 제시한다.

SEL2020HEL consists of total 732 paintings that depict the daily air quality changes of two

cities located on opposite sides of the globe during the year 2020. The work is a color-coded

panoramic landscape that traverses 300 different shades of colour, each representing a different

reading of air quality data. Formalistically inspired by the conceptual painter On Kawara's Today's

Series, abstract information of air quality as well as dates are translated into the materiality

of paint and canvas. During the one-year process of making paintings without any break,

SEL2020HEL is created through repetitive daily labour. Tailing the constant flow of time the work

raises various questions about our lives and work, the nature of time and geographic distance in

a globalised world ruled by the market economy of multinational corporations.
