네온싸인, 사운드, 투어가이드 지도

이 설치 작품은 네온사인과 사운드 및 텍스트 매체로 이루어져 있다. 네온 싸인은 대한민국 국기의 태극문양

을 연상시키는 모양에 빨간색과 파란색의 “5000 years of History” 라는 문구로 이루어져 있는데, 이 문구

는 자랑스런 역사 국가의 강조와 국가 브랜드를 구축하는데 중요한 역할을 해왔고 한국인이라면 매우 친숙

한 단어이다. 작품의 다른 한 부분인 사운드는 서울씨티투어버스의 강남투어코스 영어버전을 녹음한 것으로

네온싸인에서 발하는 역사적 자부심과 강한 대조를 이룬다. 실제 1시간 30분동안의 버스 투어 동안 단 2정

거장에서 역사와 관련된 정보가 전해진다. 투어의 나머지 부분은 다채롭고 편리한 쇼핑에 중점을 두고 있다.

사운드 플레이어/스폿스피커 옆에 인터렉티브한 매체를 통하여, 사운드 가이드에 따른 투어 지도와 정거장

이름을 확인할 수 있다.

The installation consists of a neon sign and an audio piece on loop. The neon sign bares the

phrase “5000 years of history” within the shape of the Korean flag - a phrase present in most

cases of both national branding and construction of national pride. The audio, a recording from

one of Seoul´s city tour buses, stands in stark contrast with this pride of history. Only two stops

– on a 1,5hr tour – have any historical information. The remainder of the tour concentrates on

shopping and mass-consumerism.
