35점의 드로잉 시리즈로 이루어진 작품 <향수병>은 서울의 지도를 어렴풋이 바탕으로 하여 전개된다. 이 작

품은 융통성 없는 완벽함과 단조로운 도시 풍경을 묘사하려고 ‘노력’한다. 위축되가는 한 국가의 경제를 살리

기 위해 멈출 수 없는 도시 건설 산업은 계속되고, 이러한 건물 위의 건물이 반복적으로 쌓이면서 뻣뻣해지

는 풍경은 원근감과 질서의 부재를 통해 드로잉을 행하는 완벽하지 않은 손맛과 어우러져 인간적인 자연스

러움으로 모순된다. 여백으로 이루어진 모든 건물의 옥상은 도시의 안전을 위한 자발적인 감시와 통제를 위

한 파놉티콘Panopticon적인 조명을 묘사한다. 다소 비현실적이고 뒤집힌 원근감은 조선시대 최초로 서양

예술에서 차용한 입체적 효과를 만들어내는 테크닉을 처음으로 사용한 민화인 책거리에서 빌려왔다.

This piece consists of 35 individual drawings, loosely following the shape of the map of Seoul.

The work ‘tries‘ to depict a perfectly rigid and monotonous industrial city-scape. The fallibility

of the hand, in addition to the lack of perspective and order contradict this rigidity, making

it humanely organic. The rather unrealistic, inverted, perspective is borrowed from Ch'aekk ri

paintings, a strain of Korean folk art that was amongst the first in making use of perspective and

three-dimensional effects, techniques borrowed from Western art.
